Frequently asked questions

What to expect when you first meet with a Paediatric Dietitian?
During our first meeting, our paediatric dietitian will take time to get to know you, your child and family.
We will listen to any concerns you have, and ask questions. We will aim to develop a good understanding of your children's strengths and difficulties with food and mealtimes.

During this session we will begin to complete a nutrition assessment; this will usually take 60 minutes. At times we may require additional sessions to complete this assessment. Often the first session will be one on one with the parent/carer. There is lots of talking during this session; and it can be a long time to keep children entertained. You are welcome to bring your child if this works best for you.

If you have any growth history; such as previous growth records or any recent blood results it can be helpful to bring these along to your first meeting.
Can I see a dietitian via telehealth?
Yes, telehealth services are available.
Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?
No, a referral is not needed to see our dietitian. If you wish to receive a rebate under Chronic Disease Management (CDM) you will need a referral from your GP.
How much does it cost to see the dietitian?
Our dietitian fee is $193.99/hr. Appointments are offered in time blocks of 45 or 60 minutes (inclusive of non face-to-face-time).
You may wish to contact your private health insurance provider to see if you are able to claim a rebate.
NDIS plan and self-managed participants may be able to use funding from their NDIS plan to access dietitian support. 'Capacity funding' from either Improved Health and wellbeing (12_025_0128_3_3) or Improved Daily Living (15_062_0128_3_3) can be used to access dietitian support.
