I became a psychologist to help kids. As I progressed through my training and internship, and own life experiences, my passion developed for working with children, as well as working with all ages who have experienced trauma.

The first thing people notice about me is my hair colour and colourful clothes. Helen Gunter

Psychologist
I fell into psychology through completing first year university Psychology units. This was on my pathway to becoming a sports nutritionist. Turns out I loved psychology more. I trained in Forensic Psychology and have worked with both juvenile and adult populations. In doing this work I realised I could be more helpful in working "upstream" with children, teens, families and schools to keep kids engaged and families supported. I have worked in community, custodial environments and schools and follow the philosophy that "Kids do well if they can".

My practice is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Collaborative and Proactive Solutions, Solution focussed therapy and Narrative Therapy. My approach is warm, affirming, strengths focussed and collaborative.

With a client-centred and holistic approach, I tailor therapy to meet the unique needs of each family and child, emphasising connection and understanding.

Therapy with me is all about meeting kids where they are at and connecting with them on their level. Whether through thoughtful conversation, creative expression, or play therapy, I seek to create an individualised approach to therapy in an environment that fosters a sense of comfort and curiosity.
